What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website can store in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work; others are optional and used for things like analytics or advertising. Similar technologies (such as local storage) work in much the same way, and we treat them the same here.
Our approach
Under UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and UK GDPR), we can use strictly necessary storage without asking, but we must get your consent before setting anything else. So:
- Essential storage is always on. The site can't work without it.
- Analytics (Google Analytics) only loads if you allow analytics. Until then, nothing is sent to Google at all.
- Ads only load if you allow ads. No ads run on the site today. When they do, they will never be personalised.
- Tools and the tomato planter only remember your settings when you click Save.
“Essential only” turns analytics and ads off. “Accept all” turns both on. “Choose what to allow” lets you pick each one.
